We collaborated with Miquel Barceló, the most renowned Spanish artist of our time, to launch a truly unique art book, Aura Dicta. This exceptional work combines Barceló’s distinctive artistry with classical wisdom, making it a one-of-a-kind addition to the world of contemporary art and literature.
Barcelona is home to one of the world’s most important collections of classical literature, the Bernat Metge Collection. Preserving such a cultural treasure requires substantial funding, so to support its efforts, La Casa dels Clàssics commissioned three-time Spanish National Arts Prize winner Miquel Barceló to create a unique art book. The project involved revisiting the Aurea Dicta (Latin for ‘golden words’), reinterpreting 100 aphorisms from this iconic Catalan literary gem and transforming each one into a unique painting.
Together with my longtime friend and incredibly talented creative partner in the project, Ferrán López, we felt compelled to go beyond the brief and leave a distinctive mark on the project by creating a unique teaser film to generate anticipation for the book launch. There’s no one better than Ferrán to describe it:
"The caves and the Mediterranean are a constant in Barceló’s art.
Together with director Salvador Sunyer we distilled this universe into a cryptic trailer to build-up expectations amongst art fans and publications.
Our aim was to evoke the journey of discovery the artist experienced when revisiting the book, so we bought some primitive-looking creatures from La Boqueria market in Barcelona and filmed them under a microscopic lense.
Then we found an amazing cave in Girona and filled it with an enigmatic golden light — the title of the volume means ‘Words of Gold’."
A key component of the launch project was the production of a short documentary film about the creation of Aurea Dicta by Miquel Barceló. To achieve this, we traveled to Paris and spent time in the artist’s workshop, where, alongside director Marc Puig, we captured the unique environment of Barceló’s studio and the mesmerizing atmosphere of his atelier.
